A definition of global warming
Global Warming refers to the increase in overall temperature of the earth that is caused by the greenhouse effect. Global Warming is a theory that has sparked a lot of debate in the scientific world.
What is causing Global Warming?
But what exactly is causing the earth to get so hot? It is called the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect occurs when the heat on earth is trapped by greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane.
Normally the earth's heat can escape but centuries of greenhouse gas emissions by humans has rendered our atmosphere incapable of doing so. A group of scientist say that if greenhouse gas emissions don't decrease over the next few years, the temperature may increase up to 3 degrees celcius more in a century.
A few scientists are suggesting that Global Warming has not really been caused by humans and is hence non-existing, but records show that the earth's temperature has increased between .03 to .06 degrees celcius in the last century. Researches think that this rise in temperature is bound to cause serious environmental problems by shifting earth's natural balance.

The effects of Global Warming
Already we are seing signs that Global Warming is causing damage to our ecosystem. A decrease of cold days and a rise in warm days has been noted in the last few years. Natural disaters like tornadoes, floods and storms have also happened a lot more. But what is presently the biggest and most scary effect of Global Warming may be happening in the oceans. Reseachers have found that there has been a rise of sea level of up to 25 cm in some regions. This rise is making the ice caps melt which is in return making more ice melt. This could mean a significant rises in sea level over time.
We can say that we'll deal with the tornadoes, the sea level changes and the temperature rises, but animals and plants can't. Their natural habitat will be destroyed and this can cause the extinction of many species as well as shifting the earth natural balance, making problems even worst.
But what can we do against Global Warming?
You can start by finding out how to lower your greenhouse gas emissions. Its as simple as taking your bike instead of your car, planting trees or recycling. The idea is to respect nature and preserve it as much as we can. For more information on ways to counteract Global warming, visit this page.
